Why food lasts longer in glass than in a bag
Do you also have flour, pasta, and grains sitting in half-open bags, exposed to air, where you never quite know how much is left? You are not alone. A food storage jar solves two things at once: it seals out air and moisture so dry goods stay fresh longer, and it gives you an overview you can never get with a bag.
Glass is one of the most obvious materials for food storage. It is taste-neutral and odor-neutral, so the food doesn't take on flavors from the container, and the glass does not absorb odors from previous contents. Unlike plastic, glass does not become cloudy or discolored over time, and it can be used again and again for many years. Our storage jars have a wooden lid with a sealing ring that closes the jar tightly, so flour doesn't clump, coffee doesn't lose its aroma, and grains don't get soft. That is the whole point of moving dry goods from bags to jars: an easier everyday life, where you can see everything, and where the food lasts.
The sizes and what they are suitable for
The collection is available in square jars of 500 ml, 1000 ml, 1800 ml, and 2000 ml, and in round jars of 400 ml and 1500 ml. It sounds like a lot of choices, but in practice, they follow the kitchen's own quantities.
The small 400 to 500 ml jars are suitable for things you use a little of at a time: baking powder, chia seeds, dried yeast, bouillon cubes, or a portion of nuts. The 1000 ml medium size is the one most people use the most, because it holds a standard bag of rice, a bag of lentils, or sugar without taking up too much space. The large 1800 and 2000 ml jars are for things that run out quickly: flour, rolled oats, pasta, and muesli. And the 1500 ml round jars look good sitting out on the countertop for coffee or breakfast items that you often need to reach into.
A good piece of advice is to start with the dry goods you use the most and build your system from there. You don't need to fill the whole cupboard at once. If you want to get started with the entire kitchen at once, the jars are also available as storage jar package solutions, so you get a uniform set from the start.
Square or round
The shape depends on where the jar is going to stand. Square jars stand close together without wasted space between them, and these are what you should choose if the jars are going into a cupboard or onto a shelf where every centimeter counts. They provide a calm, uniform look, precisely because the edges align.
The round jars take up a little more space on the shelf, but they have a softer shape that complements the countertop, and they are easier to get your hand all the way into. If you want the best of both worlds, you can use the square storage jars inside the cupboard and the round jars out in the open where they are seen. There is no single " right" choice, only what fits where the jar is intended to live in your kitchen.
Light wooden lid or dark acacia lid
All the jars have wooden lids, and you can choose between two looks. The light wooden lid provides a calm, Nordic look that fits into bright kitchens and Scandinavian interior design. The dark acacia wooden lid has more warmth and character in the wood and looks beautiful against dark countertops and wooden surfaces.
Both types are equally functional, so the choice is purely aesthetic. Our recommendation is to stick to one type throughout the kitchen. It is precisely the uniformity that creates a calm expression and a good flow of energy when you open the cupboard: everything matches, and the eye finds rest. If you mix light and dark, you lose a bit of that effect.
Add text so you can find things immediately
A jar doesn't do the job alone. When flour, sugar, and baking powder look similar through the glass, it is labels that provide the final overview. A label on each jar means that you and the rest of the family can find the right item immediately, and that the jar can easily change contents when it becomes empty.
It is also labels that make the system pleasing to look at. Uniform text on uniform jars is what elevates a regular shelf into something that brings calm every time you open the cupboard. If you want to use the dry goods jars for spices instead, we have a separate selection of spice jars & accessories in smaller sizes that are better suited to that volume.
How to keep the jars clean and nice
The glass itself is dishwasher safe without any problems, but the wooden lid should be treated differently. The wood and the sealing ring are best cared for by hand washing and should not soak or go in the dishwasher, as the wood could otherwise dry out or warp over time. Wipe the lid with a damp cloth and let it dry before putting it back on.
It is a small routine, but it is the reason why the jars continue to look new for years, whereas plastic containers often need to be replaced. If a lid does end up breaking after a long time of use, you can buy just the glass jar without the lid as a spare part, so you don't have to replace the whole set. If you want to read more about getting started, we have gathered our best advice in the guide storage jars for dry goods.
