Spice jars in a single format, instead of a mess of bags and small containers
Do you also have a lot of spices lying around in drawers and cupboards in both jars and bags? And do you sometimes stand in the supermarket and doubt whether you have more paprika at home? You are not the only one. It is easy to lose track when spices are in their original packaging: some in tall jars, some in flat tins, some in bags with a clip that has long since disappeared.
What these storage jars solve is precisely that inconsistency. All the jars have the same shape and dimensions, so you can line them up and actually see what you have. You fill the spice from the bag or tin into the jar, apply a label, and each spice has its own fixed place. The jars are available with three different lids, so you can match the look to your kitchen: Spice jar brass lid, Spice jar black lid, and Spice jar silver lid. The jar itself is the same; it is only the color of the lid that changes.
How to keep spices fresh for as long as possible
Spices do not become dangerous to use, but they lose aroma and flavor over time, and this happens faster if they are exposed to air, light, heat, and moisture. That is why an airtight lid and a tight jar make a real difference: the less air that gets in, the longer the aroma and flavor will last.
Most recommend storing spices in a dry, dark, and cool place, i.e., not right next to the stove or on the windowsill where sunlight and heat hit them. A kitchen cupboard or a drawer is often a better place than an open shelf above the stovetop. Whole spices like peppercorns and whole cloves hold their aroma longer than ground ones because the surface area exposed to air is smaller. Regardless of what you are storing, a tightly sealed jar provides better conditions for the spice than an open bag. If you want to dive deeper into this, we have gathered advice in our guide to spice storage.
Brass, black, or silver lid
The jar is the same; the choice is about the color of the lid, and it is mostly about what matches your kitchen. The brass lid gives a warm, slightly classic look, the black lid is neutral and calm and almost disappears into dark cupboards and countertops, and the silver lid goes well with stainless steel and a cooler, Nordic look.
The most important thing is that you choose one lid and stick to it. The point of the spice jars is the uniform look, and that falls apart if some jars have brass lids and others have black. Look at your handles, your faucet, and other details in the kitchen, and choose the lid that is closest. If the jars are to be displayed, the color matters most; if they are to be kept in a drawer, you can safely choose based on what you simply think looks the nicest.
Square jars stand closer together than round ones
The jars are square, and that is not a coincidence. Round jars always leave small triangles of wasted space between them, while the square ones can stand edge-to-edge. This means that you get more spices onto the same shelf length, and the row looks calm and uniform instead of meandering.
The square jars are also easy to clean because they stand stably and do not roll. If they are in a drawer, you can look down at the lids and labels from above and find the right one immediately. If you want them standing on a shelf or in the cupboard with the label facing forward, a revolving tray can make the back row easy to access so you do not have to move the front jars to reach what is hidden behind.
Labels make the system complete
A jar filled with red powder could be paprika, chili, or cayenne, and through the glass, they are difficult to tell apart. That is why a label is what binds the entire system together: it tells you at a glance what is in each jar, and it maintains the uniform, calm look because all the text looks the same.
Several of the package deals come with labels so you have both jars and labels from the start, for example, Spice jar package deal black lid + labels and Spice jar package deal brass lid + labels. If you already have the jars and only need labels, you can find the selection under labels. If you want to read more about how to choose and use them, we have written a guide to labels for spices - create calm and overview in the kitchen today.
How to switch from chaos to system in one afternoon
You don't need to turn the entire kitchen upside down all at once. Collecting spices in uniform jars is one of those tasks you can handle in one go and notice the difference immediately.
Step 1: Gather everything. Pull all spices out of drawers, cupboards, and shelves so you have everything in front of you. Step 2: Sort and discard. Check the dates, smell them, and throw away anything that has lost its scent or is well past its expiration date. You will often be surprised by how many duplicates appear. Step 3: Fill the jars and apply labels. Transfer one spice to each jar, label it, and put them back in a fixed place. The spices you use most often should be at the front and easiest to reach. We promise that it is all worth it once the system is created.
Ready to give as a gift
A set of uniform spice jars is a gift that gets used, and the feng shui gift sets bring the idea together: ten spice jars and the book about a more harmonious, organized life in one package. The philosophy behind it is that harmonious surroundings provide peace, and clutter gets in the way of good energy flow, so the gift is both something practical and a small invitation to more ease in the kitchen.
The set is available with the same three lids as the regular jars, so you can match the recipient's kitchen: Feng Shui Gift Set (brass lid) – Book + 10 spice jars, Feng Shui Gift Set (black lid) – Book + 10 spice jars, and Feng Shui Gift Set (silver lid) – Book + 10 spice jars.
Do you want to store flour, rice, and pasta in the same way
The spice jars solve the spices, but the same calm can spread to the rest of the kitchen cupboard. If you have dry goods like flour, sugar, rice, and pasta standing in half-open bags, you can give them the same treatment in larger jars, so the whole cupboard has one look instead of a jumble of packaging.
The larger jars can be found in the collection storage jars, and if you specifically want to get control of your dry goods, a guide is compiled in storage jars for dry goods - see the selection and create order. If you want to start from scratch with both spices and dry goods, a Starter Kit can be an easy way to get started. If you have any questions along the way, we are always ready to help.
