Why spaghetti should be stored upright in a tall jar

Do you also have an open bag of spaghetti taking up space in the cupboard, with the last few dry strands pointing in every direction? You are not the only one. Spaghetti is one of the dry goods that is hardest to store neatly, precisely because the strands are long, and a standard bag can neither be closed properly nor stand upright.

The solution is a tall, elongated storage jar that is deep enough to hold the spaghetti at its full length. Standard dry spaghetti is typically around 25 to 26 cm long, and a jar taller than that lets you stand the pasta vertically. This saves space on the shelf, allows you to take exactly the number of strands you need, and lets you see immediately when it is time to buy more. These jars are 2000 ml and are built specifically for such tall dry goods, where a short, wide jar would fall short.

How the wooden lid keeps spaghetti dry and free from pantry moths

What makes a storage jar worth investing in, rather than reusing an old pasta bag, is the closure. Moisture and small insects like pantry moths are the two biggest enemies of dry goods in the kitchen, and both are kept out by a lid that seals tightly.

These jars are closed with a square wooden lid that sits snugly against the glass rim, keeping the pasta dry and crisp in the cupboard. A tight-fitting lid also means you can safely pour an entire package into the jar without the rest absorbing moisture or odors from other foods. If you want to compare this with the other closures we carry, you can see the entire selection under storage jars with lids.

Choose between a light wood lid and acacia

The two jars in the collection have the same tall shape and capacity, but two different lids. One is the Square Storage Jar with Light Wooden Lid 2000 ml with a light wood look; the other is the Square Storage Jar with Acacia Wooden Lid 2000 ml with a darker, warmer acacia lid with more visible grain.

The choice is purely aesthetic. If you already have light wood in the kitchen, or want a calm, uniform look, the light lid fits nicely. If you want a bit more character and contrast against the clear glass, acacia is a beautiful choice. Both create the same calm and uniform look when lined up on the shelf or kitchen counter. If you want to combine several sizes in the same series, you will find them under storage series with wooden lids.

Clear glass makes spaghetti look great on display

A storage jar is not just for show, but it looks very nice. The clear glass makes the spaghetti part of the kitchen's decor instead of something you hide away. If the jar sits on the counter or an open shelf, you get a uniform and aesthetic look, where you can also always see how much is left.

Glass also has the advantage that it does not absorb odors or colors from food, can be reused again and again, and is a more durable alternative to plastic and the original packaging. This makes the jar a practical and clutter-reducing solution, perfectly in line with the idea of natural materials in the kitchen.

Add a name with a label

When you pour spaghetti, penne, and other pasta types into identical jars, they can start to look alike from a distance, especially if several are standing on the same shelf. A label makes it easy to tell them apart at a single glance and simultaneously provides the calm, uniform look that keeps clutter at bay.

We have a selection of labels that fit the jars, so you can quickly mark your dry goods. It is a small step, but it is often what makes the whole shelf look finished.

Are the glass and wooden lid dishwasher safe?

The glass itself can handle a trip through the dishwasher just fine. Wooden lids, however, should be treated more gently. Wood does not react well to prolonged soaking and high temperatures in the dishwasher, where it can crack, warp, or lose its finish over time. Therefore, wipe the lid with a damp cloth and let it dry completely before putting it back on. This way, both the glass and wood will stay nice for many years.

Before filling with something new, it is a good habit to let the jar dry completely so there is no residual moisture left. That is how the dry pasta keeps best.

More than just spaghetti in the tall jars

Even though the jars were created with spaghetti in mind, the tall shape is also ideal for other long or voluminous dry goods. Tagliatelle, spaghettoni, grissini, and full-length crackers fit just as well, and the 2000 ml also offers plenty of room for rice, oatmeal, flour, or muesli, if you would rather use the jar for that.

If you want to build an entire system in the kitchen, you can start with one jar and expand as needed. See the rest of the selection under storage jars, or take a look at our storage jar package solutions if you want several jars and a uniform look all at once. You don't need to overhaul the whole kitchen at once, but can start with one cupboard or just the pasta shelf at a time. If you have questions along the way, we are always ready to help.
