What you can store in the jars

Do you also have flour, sugar, pasta, and grains sitting in half-open bags that topple over when you are looking for something at the back of the cupboard? You are not the only one. Bags take up space awkwardly, rarely close completely, and make it hard to see how much you have left. Storage jars with wooden lids gather your dry goods in clear glass so you can see the contents immediately, and seal them behind a solid wooden lid.

The jars are especially suitable for dry goods that you use regularly: wheat flour, rye flour, oats, rice, pasta, sugar, nuts, coffee beans, and tea. Because the glass is transparent, you can quickly see when you are running low, and you avoid standing in the supermarket wondering if you have more at home. If you place the jars on the kitchen counter or on an open shelf, what you use the most will also be the easiest to reach.

Light wooden lid or acacia

The jars are available with two types of lids, and the difference is primarily the look. The square storage jar with a light wooden lid has a light, calm lid that suits light-colored kitchens and a Nordic, understated look. Storage jars with an acacia wooden lid have a darker lid with the warm, vibrant grain pattern that acacia wood is known for, providing more contrast against the glass.

Both work equally well in terms of practicality. The choice is about what suits your kitchen and which of the two you think provides the most cohesive look on the shelf. If you want a completely uniform expression, it is a good idea to choose the same lid type for all your jars from the start so the collection remains consistent.

Round or square jars

Square jars can be placed close together without wasted space between them, making the best use of a cupboard or shelf when you want several jars side by side. Round jars have a softer look and look nice out on the counter or standing individually.

The square ones are available in several sizes from 500 ml up to 2000 ml, while the round ones are available in 400 ml and 1500 ml. If you want the most uniform, complete look with many jars in a row, the square one is the most logical base shape.

How to choose the size

The sizes range from small jars of 400 to 500 ml up to large ones of 1800 and 2000 ml, and the right size depends on what the jar needs to hold.

The smallest jars fit what you use a little of at a time: baking powder, seeds, bouillon cubes, tea, or a single type of nut. The medium ones around 1000 ml are good for grains, rice, sugar, and pasta. The largest at 1800 and 2000 ml are intended for items that take up the most space and are used often, typically flour and oats, where you want to be able to pour in a whole bag without having to refill constantly.

A good trick is to measure according to the bag size of the dry goods you buy most often. If a whole bag of flour needs to fit so you don't end up with a half-empty bag on the side, you typically need to go for the larger end. If you are in doubt, it is often best to go up one size so you have space.

Get started quickly with a package deal

If you want to organize the whole kitchen at once instead of collecting the jars one by one, there are storage jar package deals with several jars included. There is both a set with a square light wooden lid and one with a square acacia wooden lid, and if you need to equip an entire pantry, there are larger packages with 20 jars.

The advantage of starting with a set is that you get a complete, uniform series from the beginning, where sizes and lids match. You don't need to turn the whole kitchen upside down at once, but a set makes it easy to create the system in one go if you are ready for it.

Wooden lids in the dishwasher or by hand

The glass itself can withstand standard cleaning, but wood and dishwashers are rarely a good combination. Solid wood and bamboo can be damaged by the high heat and long exposure to moisture in a dishwasher: the wood can dry out, crack, or lose its finish over time. Therefore, the clearly safest method is to wash the wooden lid by hand with a damp cloth and dry it afterward rather than soaking it.

Cleaning instructions may vary from model to model, so always check the instructions for the specific jar you have. If in doubt, treat the wooden lid as you would a wooden cutting board: quick wipe, no prolonged moisture. That way, it will keep its nice appearance for a long time.

How airtight are the jars

A lid that fits well helps keep dry goods fresh and protect them from moisture in the air, and many jars with wooden lids have a seal that closes more tightly than a loose lid. How airtight an individual jar is, however, depends on the model and the construction of the lid, so it is worth reading the product description for the jar you choose if complete airtightness is important to you.

Regardless of the seal, a fixed wooden lid makes a noticeable difference compared to an open bag: the contents are protected, it doesn't spill, and it looks much calmer on the shelf. If you want a full overview, the next step is to put labels on them so you can see at a glance what is in each jar without opening them.

The jars as part of a cohesive kitchen

Storage jars with wooden lids are strongest when they are part of a larger whole together with the rest of the kitchen. If you have spices lying loose in the cupboard, it provides peace of mind to gather them in spice jars & accessories, so both dry goods and spices have fixed places. If you want to get the whole kitchen in order, you can find more inspiration in our collection of storage jars.

Natural materials like glass and wood create calm and fit well into a home where things have their place. It is not about everything being perfect, but about the overview and ease you gain in everyday life when you can see what you have and find it easily. If you have questions about sizes or choosing lids, we are ready to help.
