What a 2-litre storage jar can hold
A 2-litre storage jar is the size you reach for when a bag of flour, sugar, or pasta should no longer be left half-open in the cupboard. Two litres equals 2000 ml, which is plenty to hold a whole kilo bag of wheat flour with room to spare, a whole bag of sugar, or most bags of pasta, rice, and grains in one go. Coffee beans, rolled oats, cornflakes, and dried legumes also fit nicely. The advantage of the 2-litre jar is that you rarely end up with leftovers that won't fit: you pour the entire bag in at once and throw away the packaging immediately.
At élé living, the jar is available in two versions that are identical in capacity but differ in the wood type and tone of the lid. You can choose the Square storage jar with wooden lid 2000 ml light or the Square storage jar with acacia wooden lid 2000 ml, depending on which wood colour suits your kitchen best.
Real glass instead of plastic
The jars are made of real glass, not plastic, and that makes a difference in everyday life. Glass does not absorb odours or colours from what you put in it, so you can just as well use the same jar for strong coffee today and for sugar in six months, without one tasting of the other. The glass also does not scratch as easily as plastic and does not become cloudy or discoloured over time. You can see the contents clearly all the way through, and that is half the point: you notice when the flour is running low without opening the lid.
On top of that, glass is a material that lasts for years and can be used again and again. It fits the philosophy of a simple lifestyle, where you invest in a few durable items rather than buying new ones all the time.
The square design provides more cupboard space
The jars are square, not round, and this is not just a question of appearance. Square jars stand side by side without the empty spaces that round jars leave, and you therefore get significantly more out of the shelf. On a kitchen counter or an open shelf, the straight edges simultaneously create a calm, uniform look where the jars line up next to each other in a neat row instead of standing scattered.
This is where the feeling of overview arises. When flour, sugar, pasta, and grains are in the same type of jar with the same kind of wooden lid, the visual clutter of bags in different colours and sizes disappears. If you want to expand with more sizes in the same series, you can combine the 2-litre jar with the others in our range of square storage jars, so the entire cupboard gets the same look.
The wooden lid keeps dry goods fresh
The lid is made of wood and closes tightly around the jar, so dry goods stay fresh and are protected against moisture from the air. This is a particular advantage for flour and grains, which otherwise easily absorb moisture and clump together, and it also keeps small pests out of the cupboard. The wooden lid also provides the warm, natural contrast to the clear glass that Feng Shui-inspired decor values: natural materials like wood and glass create calm in the kitchen.
One thing is worth knowing about wood and water. The jar itself can be wiped off and cleaned easily, but wooden lids are generally best hand-washed and should not be soaked or put in the dishwasher, as wood can be damaged by prolonged contact with hot water. Wipe the lid with a damp cloth and let it dry, and it will stay nice for many years.
How to make your entire kitchen hang together
A single 2-litre jar rarely solves the entire challenge alone, because a kitchen cupboard holds items in many sizes. Coffee, rice, and pasta take up a lot of room and fit the large jars, while baking powder, cocoa, and nuts make do with less. If you want the same calm look throughout, you can pair the 2-litre jar with the rest of the storage jars series or choose a ready-made storage jar package solution where the sizes have already been put together.
If you are just missing that final touch to tie it all together, labels make a big difference. When each jar is labelled, everyone in the home can find the right one without opening the lid, and you avoid being in doubt about what is wheat flour and what is sugar. If you want to read more about how to get started, we have collected advice in our guide storage jars for dry goods - see the selection and create order.
You don't need to turn the entire kitchen upside down at once. Start with the dry goods you use the most and expand calmly from there. If you have questions along the way, we are ready to help.
