How storage jars create calm in your kitchen cupboards
Do you also have flour in one bag, pasta in another, and grains lying loosely in a third, half-opened bag at the back of the cupboard? You quickly lose track, and you find yourself standing in the supermarket wondering if you have enough rice at home. You are not the only one.
Storage jars solve exactly that. When your dry goods are transferred into clear jars with tight-fitting wooden lids, you can see at a glance what you have and how much is left. The glass is transparent, so pasta, coffee, and flour stand out as part of the decor, and the wooden lid creates an airtight seal so that the contents stay fresh for longer. At the same time, the cupboard gets a calm, uniform look because the jars are identical in shape and can stand side by side. It is for both the eye and inner peace: an organized kitchen creates the overview you need in a busy everyday life.
This collection gathers our glass storage jars with wooden lids, in both square and round models and in several sizes, so you can build a complete system from scratch.
Square or round jars
The jars come in two shapes, and they solve slightly different tasks. The square storage jars sit closest together and make the best use of shelf and cupboard space because the flat sides fit perfectly against each other without wasted space in between. These are the ones you choose if you want a whole row of matching jars standing tightly on a shelf or in a cupboard.
The round jars with wooden lids have a softer look and are nice to have on the kitchen counter or out where they can be seen. They are available here in 400 ml and 1500 ml, meaning both for the small items you use often and for the large portion of flour or oatmeal.
There is no single "right" choice. Many combine them: square for what needs to be on a shelf in the cupboard, and a couple of round ones out for coffee and tea.
Sizes from 400 ml to 2000 ml
The jars range from 400 ml up to 2000 ml, and it is worth thinking about the size before you fill the cupboard. Here are some concrete guidelines for what the different sizes are suitable for:
The smallest, 400 and 500 ml, are good for things you use a little of: baking powder, sesame seeds, dried yeast, nuts, or a single type of tea. The largest, 1800 and 2000 ml, take a whole bag of flour, a bag of oatmeal, or a large portion of pasta. The mid-sizes of 1000 and 1500 ml hit the items most people use the most: rice, sugar, lentils, muesli.
A good tip is to measure according to what you actually buy. If a jar doesn't fit a whole standard bag, you end up with a remainder left in the bag, and then half the point is gone. If you would rather get it all sorted at once, our package solutions gather a whole set in mixed sizes, so you get a finished system from the start.
Light wooden lid or dark acacia lid
The lids are available in two wood finishes, and this is where you set the tone in your kitchen. The light wooden lid provides a bright, Nordic look that suits light kitchens and white shelves. The dark acacia lid has a warmer, darker grain pattern and looks better against darker kitchens or as a deliberate contrast.
Both types create an airtight seal on the jar. Choose according to your kitchen, and try to stick to the same type throughout so the row of jars looks uniform. It is precisely that uniform look that provides the calm you are looking for when you open the cupboard.
How the jars keep dry goods fresh
The wooden lid fits tightly against the rim of the glass and keeps air and moisture out, so flour, grains, pasta, and coffee last longer than they do in an open bag or a bag closed with a clip. The glass itself does not absorb taste and odors, as plastic can do over time, and you can always see when a jar needs to be refilled.
One thing is worth knowing: precisely because wood is a natural material, the wooden lid itself must be handled a bit more gently than the glass. Wash the lid by hand and let it dry, instead of putting it in the dishwasher, where high temperatures and prolonged moisture can wear down the wood over time. If a lid does break after a few years, you don't need to buy a whole new jar: we have storage jars and spare parts, so you can replace individual parts instead of the entire set.
Build a complete system rather than individual jars
The greatest strength of this series is that the jars work together. They are the same shape and family, so you can start with three jars for the things that are most cluttered and build on as you are ready. You don't have to overhaul the whole kitchen at once.
A good way to get started is to divide dry goods into zones: a baking zone with flour, sugar, and yeast; a breakfast zone with grains and muesli; and a zone for pasta, rice, and lentils. Put what you use most in front and at eye level. If you want to finish the system completely, you can put labels on the jars so everyone in the home knows what is what and the jars are put back in place after use.
If you are looking for storage for items other than dry goods in glass, we also have storage containers with lids for the kitchen. We promise that it is all worth it once the system is created, and if you have questions along the way, we are always ready to help.
